Honouring Heroes: Blackrow Group Partners with Cleethorpes Royal Navy Association to Unveil Memorial Statue
In a momentous event over the weekend, Blackrow Group joined the Cleethorpes Royal Navy Association to unveil a striking new memorial statue honouring the brave men and women of the Royal Navy. The memorial, which Blackrow Group designed, fabricated, and installed, is now a powerful symbol of remembrance in Cleethorpes, celebrating the courage and sacrifice of naval personnel across generations.
Honouring Naval Heroes Through Metal Relief Art
The statue showcases beautifully detailed metal reliefs of three key figures: a Royal Navy sailor, a Women’s Royal Navy (WRNS) sailor, and the iconic “Yomper” Royal Marine, an image made famous by Peter Holdgate’s portrayal of a Royal Marine during the Falklands Conflict.
A Community Gathering to Commemorate Service and Sacrifice
The unveiling of the statue took place on November 2nd 2024, with veterans, community members, and notable guests in attendance, including Nigel Smith, a veteran who served aboard HMS Antrim during the Falklands conflict. The event marked the culmination of countless hours of planning, fundraising, and dedication by the Royal Navy Association Committee, who worked tirelessly to bring this vision to life.
Royal Navy Association Praises Blackrow Group’s Craftsmanship
The Royal Navy Association expressed heartfelt thanks to the skilled team at Blackrow Group, whose expertise turned their vision into a reality. A spokesperson for the Association stated, “The idea behind this memorial was to create a space where people could come to pay their respects to Royal Navy and Royal Marine personnel. Blackrow Group’s exceptional craftsmanship has helped us achieve that. We extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who donated and supported us along the way.”
A Lasting Tribute to Royal Navy Heroes in Cleethorpes
The statue now invites residents and visitors alike to pause, reflect, and honour those whose bravery has shaped the Royal Navy’s history, ensuring their sacrifices will never be forgotten. For Blackrow Group, being part of this endeavour has been a privilege, and our team express deep gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to Cleethorpes’ heritage.
