Recently, we had the pleasure of welcoming Emily Goodwin (Assoc CIPD) from North East Lincolnshire Council to our premises. Emily shared insights into the incredible work being done to support fostering in our region and highlighted the ways businesses can get involved.

Becoming a Foster-Friendly Business

We are proud to announce that Blackrow has officially joined the Foster Friendly Business Community, reinforcing our dedication to community-focused initiatives. Several of our team members are already engaged in fostering, and we recognise the positive impact it has on children’s lives. By supporting fostering, we aim to help more children find safe, loving homes.

The Foster Friendly Business Initiative is a council-led scheme encouraging businesses to support employees who are foster carers. Over 100 local businesses have already signed up, offering flexible working arrangements, additional leave for foster carers, and discounts for fostering families. Each business works closely with the fostering team to create a tailored support plan.

Why Fostering Matters

According to The Fostering Network, the UK’s leading fostering charity, there were more than 40,000 foster families across the country last year, caring for an estimated 57,000 children. In North East Lincolnshire, there is a growing need for more foster carers to provide safe and stable homes for children in care. The council’s fostering team is working tirelessly to recruit and support new foster carers to ensure every child has the opportunity to thrive in a nurturing environment.

Fostering is a life-changing experience – not just for the children but also for the carers who provide them with love and stability. North East Lincolnshire Council’s foster carers form a warm, welcoming community that supports one another, shares experiences, and participates in events designed to encourage and uplift those involved in fostering.
