Blackrow Champions Women in Engineering at Major North Lincolnshire Careers Event

Blackrow is proudly supporting today’s Women into Manufacturing and Engineering (WiME) careers event at The Baths Hall in Scunthorpe, joining more than 20 leading employers working to inspire the next generation of women and girls into STEM careers.

The event, taking place on Wednesday 11 March, brings together students, jobseekers and industry professionals to highlight the growing opportunities across manufacturing, engineering, digital, construction and renewable energy. With these sectors expanding rapidly across the Humber, employers are keen to attract new talent; and Blackrow is determined to play its part.

A spokesperson for Blackrow said the company was delighted to be involved in an initiative that aligns so closely with its values.

“Engineering thrives when it draws on a wide range of skills, perspectives and experiences. Supporting WiME is an important way for us to show women and girls that there is a place for them in this industry, and that they can build a successful, rewarding career right here in Northern Lincolnshire.”

North Lincolnshire already has one of the strongest manufacturing workforces in the country, with 17 per cent of local employment in the sector; almost double the national average. As investment in renewable energy accelerates, demand for skilled workers is expected to grow even further. Yet women remain underrepresented in STEM roles, something WiME aims to change by offering honest insight, practical guidance and real‑life role models.

Throughout the day, visitors will have the chance to meet women working across industry, explore different career pathways and learn about routes into work, from apprenticeships to mid‑career retraining.

The event also includes a free public session from 3.30pm to 6pm for women considering a career change, returning to work, or attending with their daughters.

Blackrow’s involvement reflects its long‑standing commitment to developing local talent, strengthening diversity and supporting the future of engineering in the region. By attending today’s event, the team hopes to encourage more women to consider careers in manufacturing and engineering, and to see Blackrow as a place where those ambitions can thrive.

The WiME event is free to attend, with no prior experience or qualifications required.
