Our very own Electrical Manager, Paul Atkinson is taking on the challenge of Kilimanjaro in aid of The Children’s Hospital Charity – Something that is very close to Pauls Heart.

Paul, his father Kev and his brother Nick are currently in training, on many different walks, planning on climbing Mount Snowdon in May, readying him for the main event in September!

Please take the time to read Paul's story below:-

On the 19th October 2011 my son Joseph was born. From being the happy day it should have been, the mood quickly turned to one of worry. He was rushed to Grimsby ICU and then to Sheffield Children's Hospital. For two weeks the team of surgeons and nurses took brilliant care of Joseph, performing life saving surgery. Seven years later and we are still regulars at the hospital and will be for many years to come.

Sheffield Children Hospital (SCH) provides a vital life saving service across a vast area of Lincolnshire Derbyshire and South Yorkshire, touching the lives of countless families. their expertise and support are second to none.

Today they are overcrowded and over stretched. They desperately need to expand to meet the ever growing demands of their community. The Government does contribute, but the gap in funding is huge.

After a couple of traumatic visits to the operating theatre, with us trying to persuade Joseph to be brave, it occurred to me perhaps I need to be braver too. A good time to think about facing my fears as Joseph has to do constantly. So exercise and heights (both big fears of mine) here we come!! Kilimanjaro we will conquer you. "We" being the three Amigo's myself, the older (70) and wiser man of the family, an amazing grandad who thinks the world of Joseph and my younger brother Nick whose wicked sense of humour will keep our spirits high!

Every donation large or small will make a difference to SCH's young patients who depends on our hospitals excellent care. This hospital s a nationally significant centre of excellence, seeing about 269,000 patients a year (1 every two minutes).
