Blackrow Group have put a significant investment into the company’s Design Department with the purchase of new 3D scanning and drawing software and hardware. This includes new top of the range workstation computers, the latest in 3D CAD software including SolidWorks® and AutoCAD AEC Suite®.

This £50,000 investment in new software and hardware allows Blackrow to offer enhanced 3D scanning and CAD drawing services. Scanning on site uses Point Cloud technology to map the space and accurate 3D drawings can be created.

Point Cloud technology is a collection of data points gathered by a 3D scanner on site. These real-world measurements are then translated into a 3D image. This provides accurate measurements in three dimensions on which to base drawings for new equipment.

Drawing Office Manager, Ryan Aisthorpe commented

“The department over the last year has been branching out into the 3D Point Cloud sector. To accompany that process we have invested in specialised software to produce augmented reality drawings showing 3D models in a real life environment.

We have the ability to produce video animations to illustrate the completed job on turn-key projects before steel is cut!

A new fully furnished open office will unite the Engineering Contracts Team and Design Department to further increase the pool of knowledge and experience amongst the team.”

This investment in the latest engineering design technology is part of a wider £1m investment from Blackrow across the whole business.
